Update 7.24

In response to the announcement made by the Governor of California Gavin Newsom, he ordered the closing of all public and private schools. Small schools like ours can demonstrate strong compliance with health and safety guidelines and relatively-lower numbers in our geographic area. We are a daycare center which is seen as an essential service. As a result, their announcement will not alter our plans and preparation to return to school. Our plans remain to commence school on campus Tuesday, August 11, 2020.

When we come back to school, it is important to protect the health and safety of everyone in our Class Family Group. New CA guidelines released on July 17 may require semi-monthly staff testing. LA County is working on making this available to schools as quickly as possible.

The Class Family Group structure and preventative measures in place should help us prevent a COVID-19 outbreak in the school community. The procedures we now have in place are based on the guidelines for childcare centers that stayed open during March-May.

COVID-19 EXPOSURE PLAN

LA County Health Department Guidelines:

  • If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID, we will call the health department Communicable Disease Program. They will advise if we need to close a classroom (Class Family Group) or campus and for how long.

  • Contact Tracing – We will immediately identify and notify any other students, staff, or other individuals who may have been in close contact.

  • Transparent Communication – We cannot disclose the identity of the student, staff, or family member with COVID or COVID exposure. However, we will let the class and anyone with possible exposure know that there was a case, and we will trace individual contacts that may require additional follow up, testing, and/or self-quarantine.

  • Current guidelines for self-quarantine: 10 days from the start of symptoms and 3 days from that last date of symptoms.

    • If a student or staff member tests positive.

    • If a student or staff member has been exposed to someone who tests positive (more than 10 minutes of close contact-less than 6 feet distance indoors).

MASKS REQUIREMENTS

All adults (parents/staff) and children 3 years old and up will need to wear masks while on campus, starting from when they enter the school grounds in the parking lot. Therefore Green and Orange Class children will be required to wear face masks at all times. Red Class children will however be practicing wearing a mask and won’t be required to wear one all day.

Children that wear a Face Shield will have to ALSO wear a fitted cloth face mask with their shield. Science indicates that face shields do not protect others from aerosols the way masks do and that they should be used as an addition to masks.
